During a long study in order to combat age human brain diseases, scientists have found that an experimental drug tested on laboratory mice, can neutralize the effect of ageing on living organism.
The working title of the medicine is S18986. This medicine interacts with special AMPA receptors in the brain. These receptors act as a transmitter of excitatory signals. Scientists are interested in protective AMPA receptors, which have already shown themselves as a reliable barriers to the deterioration of memory in the elderly.
The main idea of this analysis is to examine the drug function for a long time: from adulthood to old age.
Dr. McEwen, the head of the Harold and Margaret Milliken Hatch Laboratory of Neuroendocrinology, has claimed that such kind of study was not conducted earlier. Short-term study of a new drug effectiveness showed that it’s protect from the deteriorating memory. However, the latest analysis showed that in the long term there is a positive effect of the drug on the human brain as a whole, significantly reduces the development of an elderly person Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
