British researchers are experimenting to create primitive sperm from stem cells taken from bone marrow woman’s body.
Developed in fact, could pave the way for human bisexualism – an ability of one person to produce male and female sex cells.
Researchers from the University of Newcastle said that their method will lead to new ways of infertility treatment, writes Daily Mail. In addition, the new technology could allow lesbians to have biological children.
Professor of Biology from one University Karim Nayernia asked for permission to carry out the work and was ready to begin experiments within two months. Along with colleagues he has been able to obtain an immature (not passed all meiosis divisions) semen from bone marrow men.
According to the biologist, immature sperm cells from female he will be able to make in two years, and cells, lasted the full spermatogenesis - in three years.
If the study group will be able to make a full-fledged female sperm from stem cells, and to fertilize the female egg, the result will be a new woman’s body, with two sex chromosomes X.
However, some experts have doubts about the ability of women cells to undergo fully all stages of spermatogenesis. In their view, this requires the participation of gene Y sex chromosome, presented normally only in men.
The new method raises a number of ethical issues, including the potential biological unwanted males.
