According to recently presented report, that has been published in Acta Paeditrica magazine, only 2 % of preparations for children pass testing of independent committees on safety which, would help to expect the possible complications connected with the use of these medicinal substances.
Researchers from University of Nottingham have made detailed analysis of 739 testing drugs of that have been published during 1996 for 2002. The area of research included check of preparations studying on safety. It has been established, that 74 % of medicines for children pass monitoring on safety. However only 2 % pass testing of independent committees.
The manager of the research project was doctor Helen Sammons she noted: “so low level of check of children’s preparations on safety has greatly surprised scientists. We call the pharmaceutical companies to address for services of independent committees which will give the full report on suitability of a medicine in pediatrics”.
Researchers also have found out, that in seven cases from ten preparations for children possess negative by-effects. Thus in five cases from ten given by-effects can be ranked to hazardous to the child’s health.
As to a comparative estimation of various preparations it meets in 26 % of cases. The testing of new medicines based on effect of their action in comparison with placebo, occurs in 35 % of analyses.
