Who among us has not shaking in the cold? Everyone is familiar with the unpleasant feeling that we are at freezing.
It turns out that shiver - it is a protective mechanism by which the human body is trying to get warm. However, it requires a large amount of energy used so rarely: only in extreme situations. Tremor is a weak reduction in skeletal muscles with a high frequency, which can provide the heat needed to warm the body.
Researchers from Oregon Health and Science University found a mechanism used by the nervous system of laboratory mice in order to start the tremor.
Conducting mechanism of this reaction were nervous way, directly controlling the temperature of the skin. If necessary, to the skin sends nerve impulse and gets defensive reaction shivering. Tremor was at the very bottom, primitive level of self-regulation body, so to control its manifestation is virtually impossible.
The study Kazuhiro Nakamura has been conducting path transmitters in the brain signals about the temperature of the skin. Together with Sean Morrison, he found that the necessary information about the cold recorded in the skin exactly the same receptors, but transferred to another part of the brain.
Although these results were obtained in the course of experiments on rats, scientists do not doubt that, and the primates, and a person, everything happens precisely on the same pattern. Details of their work can be found in the latest issue of Nature Neuroscience.
While it remains unclear why the body includes the same function in the stressful situation. However, it is clear that some form of nerve relate to the violation of those pursuing ways.
