Egyptian scientists refuted the widespread view that kalian smoking causes far less injury than conventional cigarettes. Previously it was believed that tobacco smoke in kalian is less harmful than cigarette, as filtered by water and cool before falling into the smoker’s lungs.
The team of Egyptian medics and engineers decided to verify if such belief untrue. To do this, scientists are designed apparatus, consisting of a cylinder, which corresponds to the volume of human lungs, and head inside the piston simulator inhalation and exhalation of tobacco smoke.
The device is designed in such a way that after the full cycle of the piston movement in it remains exactly as much smoke, but settles in the lungs of smokers. This smoke, in turn, subjected to physical and chemical analysis.
In doing so, scientists had to be a lot of time watching the smokers waterpipe, to find out how much time is spent on smoking, and how long delayed smoke in the lungs after the delay. All these data were processed and entered into a computer that manages the apparatus imitating smoking hookah.
The study proved the most disappointing for fans of “shisha” - so-called kalian in Egypt. First, it became clear that the consumption of only 25 grams of tobacco through hookah equated to 60 smoked cigarettes. That is normal portions of hookah tobacco smoking causes no less harm than three packets of cigarettes.
Scientists have determined that the temperature glow of coal and smoke shishas at more than 450 degrees Celsius, therefore, passing through the water, the smoke does not cool to safe temperature.
Another unpleasant news for lovers of hookah became the scientists conclusion that the constant inhalation of 500-600 cubic centimeters smoke leads to a loss of elasticity of the lungs, resulting in they increase and lose their ability to get rid effectively harmful penetration of smoke.
