Researchers analyzed data from 1996 to 2006 what people think about their tattoos. Participants in the study were people who apply to the 4 dermatological clinics in the United States. At the beginning of the study 83% of participants were satisfied with their body art. About 20% were disappointed with the result and only 6% wanted immediately to remove the tattoo with skin. In 2006, scientists conducted a re-poll among 196 participants in the study. Of these, 130 were female representatives. It turned out that the number of women who want to remove the tattoo is much higher than that of men (69% vs. 31%).
Most often, with a view to removing tattoos treated women aged 24 to 29 years, with education and unmarried. The most frequent causes of tattoo removal are:
1. simply decided to remove it - 58%
2. a sense of embarrassment - 57%
3. found new jobs or changed careers - 38%
4. experiencing difficulties in the selection of clothing - 37%.
Then the scientists decided to find out the most popular reasons why people do tattoo:
1. the desire to feel unique - 44%
2. The desire freedom and independence - 33%
3. The desire to gain experience in this sphere of life - 28%.
According to the analysis of every fourth-Americans aged 18 to 30 years have tattoo.
